Ripnios Vice-Lord and his twin brother, Ahknios Vice-Lord, were born in Sarlonan in the Ohr Kaluun Province. Both parents where sent to Khorvaire as slaves to the war when they were young, forcing the the siblings to look after each other and learn to protect themselves. As they grew up, Ripnios and Ahknios gravitated towards different arts. While Ripnios found his path through arcane knowledge; Ahknios was more suited with a weapon in his hand. When they were finally old enough they traveled to Khorvaire to find and free their parents. The brothers took up mercenary work during the war and searched far and wide for them.


Eventually, Ahknios vanishes without a trace and Ripnios spends a year of research in order to figure out how to get him back. He learns about Orcus, Prince of the Undead, ruler of Thanatos the 113 layer of the Abyss. After summoning Orcus and bargaining his soul along with his aid to kill a certain Demon Lord, Orcus provided Ripnios with Warlock powers in order to give him an edge.

Ripnios then travels to Aundair with information about a great arcane university located in Arcanix and the hope that it'll help him on the quest to kill the Demon Lord. Soon after arriving in Arcanix, a mage of Aundair's Royal Eyes, Marian Hawklight, offers a job. Once Ripnios accepted it, he gathered a group of adventurers that were perfect for the quest.

As they continued to on in their adventures together, Ripnios and his band of misfits stumbled upon Kabolos, The Shapeshifting Master of Time. Kabolos sends the group 104 years in the past, just months before the 100 Year War began in Khorvaire. After learning when and where they were transported to they continue to the great city of Flamekeep, where a few of the party members were treated like royalty. Not long after arriving in Flamekeep, the group's assassin hears rumors of a Tiefling slave auction happening in the dead of night, and Ripnios couldn't resist in helping free his kind. The party attempted to free the slaves but were eventually outnumbered and were forced to into slavery themselves. Ripnios did find one good thing that came of this awful event, his grandfather, Akmenos. Akmenos was surprised to see his grandson especially since he was also taken from his family. Akmenos then informed Ripnios of the pact the Vice-Lords have with Orcus. For ages the Vice-Lord family has held a pact with the Prince of the Undead, which would allow the second born son to have fortune and fame, but not without a price. The first borns would be taken by Orcus. With this new found information Ripnios was infuriated at Orcus' trickery, and now wanted his head as payment.
