Description

Saoirse Flynn, the girl who would one day become The Huntress Who Walks In Silence was born in tiny impoverished village in the Linowan Nations 24 years ago. The Linowan Nations once hosted hundreds of tribes, many of speculated that they were once the cradle of civilization. The colonial era was unkind to them. Now the nations form a vast swath of underdeveloped and impoverished countries. Disease, famine, poverty, corruption, and disregard for civil rights are all common. Civil wars, coup d'etats and insurrections wrack the region. War is near constant, resulting in failed states afflicted by feudal warlords and economic collapse.

The outside world helps very little. Multinational corporations buy mineral rights from corrupt governments or greedy warlords. Foreign powers maintain military bases in their old colonies and offer economic aid, but only with strings attached. And humanitarian efforts from civilian organizations are often hijacked by local officials or warlords.

It is an area ripe for the Abyssals to take advantage of. The Abyssal exalt Green Jade haunts the villages and killing fields of the Linowan Nations and the Haltan Zone. Wherever she goes, people die, never young children, but some would consider that more a curse than a blessing.

Green Jade came to Saoirse's village when she was ten years old. No person older than twelve survived the visit. When the local warlord sent his army to investigate, he knew an opportunity when he saw one. Every surviving child strong enough to hold a rifle was taken, those who were not, were left to die.

For seven years Saoirse fought against the armies of rival warlords, Haltans, bandits, and the foreign occupiers who seemed to think they were doing the Linowans some sort of favor by being there. She learned how to move in dead silence. She learned to stalk men like prey. By the time she had reached the tender age of fifteen, she was an accomplished assassin.

But it was not to last. Government forces had finally managed to acquire equipment to deal with the warlord. A weapon they hoped would end his insurrection in one fell swoop. Saoirse was far from camp when the fuel air bomb fell, it didn't matter much, even as far as she was, the pressure wave ruptured her lungs, liquified her innards, and left her bleeding to death from the inside. Perhaps the worst thing was that it did not kill her instantly. It took long minutes before she would bleed out. But just as the world was dimming and the pain beginning to ebb away something happened, a shard of something, black, decaying, and shining with sick radiance latched onto her soul. Her eyes opened and she took her second breath as her wounds knit and healed. It perhaps says something that this was only her second worst shock of the day.

Standing near her was the very same woman who had started all this. Green Jade. Saoirse could perhaps be forgiven for launching herself bodily at the exalt who had ruined her life with all the nonchalance of a woman crushing a bug. With many many decades more experience than the new exalt it was not terribly surprising when Green Jade subdued her with little difficulty. What followed was a necessarily brief tutoring session, one where the older exalt gave information in between beating off Saoirse's attempts to kill her. And then just as suddenly as she appeared, she was gone, leaving Saoirse with only the barest of information and the vaguest of clues of what she could do.

It didn't take long for her to find out, not after she encountered government forces investigating the area and mopping up what little remained of the warlord's forces. It also didn't take long for her to come to a decision. What does one do when one has the power of a god incarnate? She knew her skills, and she knew what could be done with them. The warlords would fall, the invaders would be driven out. And when all resistance was finally crushed, the Linowan Nations would rise again, for the masses, not for whoever had the biggest pocketbook or the biggest gun.

Seven more years have passed since she Exalted, and the legend is spreading. Of a ghost who walks unseen and kills as she pleases. Of a masked spectre who walks through a hail of bullets untouched. Of warlords caught in their bedrooms and left nailed to the wall with slashed throats or a single bullet between the eyes. The Huntress Who Walks In Silence has staked her claim to her homeland. Death comes swiftly for those fools who would contest it.
